How to edit PDF text directly in your browser
Edit selectable text in PDF files, add annotations, shapes, and signatures while preserving the original layout.

Text editing works on selectable text
The PDF Editor extracts text with position, font size, and font family from each page using PDF.js. When you edit, the original text area is masked with a whiteout rectangle and new text is drawn using the closest standard font match (Helvetica, Times, or Courier families with bold/italic variants). Replacement text that would overflow the original bounding box is automatically scaled down to fit.
Annotations and shapes
Add highlights, underlines, strikethroughs, sticky notes, rectangles, ellipses, lines, and arrows. These are drawn as vector overlays on the canvas and preserved in the exported PDF. Each annotation type serves a different review purpose: highlights for emphasis, notes for comments, shapes for marking areas.
Images and signatures
Insert images (converted to PNG for embedding) and typed or drawn signatures. Signatures can include an optional date line. These are positioned by page fraction and rendered as part of the PDF. Uploaded images are normalized to PNG because the PDF library only embeds PNG or JPG formats.
Page management
Reorder, rotate, delete, or duplicate pages. The visual page selector shows thumbnails for drag-and-drop reordering and multi-select operations. Page operations work on the document structure directly without re-rendering content.
Search and Replace
Search across the current page or all pages with case-sensitive, whole-word, and regex options. Replace single matches or all matches at once. Undo is available for replace operations. The replace all preview shows exactly which matches will be changed before you confirm.
Keep the original until verified
The editor works best on text-based PDFs with selectable text. Scanned/image-only PDFs need OCR first (use the OCR PDF tool). For longest edits, review the exported PDF — custom embedded fonts in the source cannot be perfectly replicated; standard fonts are used instead. Keep the original PDF until you verify the exported result.
Font matching and RTL support
The editor detects font weight, style, and writing direction for each text item. Arabic and Hebrew text is automatically handled with proper RTL rendering. Font profiles are matched against the standard font families available in pdf-lib to maintain visual consistency across edits.
Current status: local browser editor is live
The PDF Editor runs entirely in your browser using PDF.js and pdf-lib — no uploads, no server calls. Text editing, annotations, shapes, images, signatures, page reorder/rotate/delete/duplicate, and search/replace are all available now. The tool works on selectable text in text-based PDFs; scanned documents need OCR first. Custom embedded fonts in the source PDF cannot be perfectly replicated; standard browser fonts (Helvetica, Times, Courier families) are used instead. For high-fidelity layout preservation with original fonts, a Plus server engine is planned but not yet available.
