File Maktab is an independent file-tools project focused on practical workflows: PDF, image, Word, Excel, CSV, and JSON tools that run in your browser, plus optional AI document features for signed-in users.
It solves everyday file problems: making a PDF small enough to email, merging documents into one file, converting between Office, image, and data formats, extracting text, and preparing files for uploads and forms. Each tool page states exactly what the tool does, its input formats, and its limits.
Local file tools process the selected file in your browser and do not send its contents to File Maktab’s server. AI features — including summaries, document chat, translation, extraction, analysis, and image-to-text — send the selected text or image to File Maktab servers and then to the configured processing endpoint; the interface identifies these server-assisted submissions. Read the privacy policy for the limits of what is known about production/provider retention.
All local tools are free without an account. The optional free account adds the AI features and a small activity history. Paid plans (Plus, Premium) unlock higher limits, batch processing, advanced AI tools, priority support, and team workspaces. The pricing page describes the current plans and features accurately.
The File Maktab interface is available in English and Arabic. Each tool page lists its supported inputs; Arabic text and RTL layout support can vary by format and converter, so review exported results before relying on them.
We state each tool's limits instead of overpromising: local converters focus on editable text rather than perfect layout, scanned documents need OCR before their text can be edited, and AI answers can be wrong and should be reviewed. If a tool cannot do something, the page says so.
