How password protection actually works on a PDF
Standard PDF encryption scrambles the document streams with a symmetric key derived from your password, so a viewer cannot open the file without it. This tool applies an AES-256 password in your browser using the same algorithm a desktop PDF editor would use, then hands you a protected copy to keep while the original stays untouched on your device.
Password protection is not DRM and not certificate-level security: anyone who knows the password can open and remove it, sharing without caveat. Choose it when you need a gate on attachments or a light barrier before uploading to a shared drive. Write the password down — File Maktab cannot recover a lost one.
