How to fix rotated PDF pages before sharing or printing

Correct a sideways or upside-down document after a scan, photo, or export without touching the original file.

01

Keep the original, then open Rotate PDF and choose the copy you want to correct.

02

Run the rotation to create a new file instead of replacing your source document.

03

Open the result and check headings, signatures, and the intended pages before you share or print it.

Why pages arrive sideways

Rotation problems usually come from scanning: a landscape page fed through a portrait scanner, a duplex scan that flipped the back sides, or a phone photo auto-rotated by its EXIF flag while the PDF page itself was not. The page content is fine — only the orientation flag is wrong.

Whole-document rotation

The rotate tool turns every page by 90 degrees per action. That fixes documents that are uniformly sideways or upside-down (apply twice for 180°). It does not rotate individual pages — for a document where only some pages are wrong, split those pages out with Split PDF, rotate them, then merge everything back with Merge PDF.

Check before you send

Open the rotated PDF in a second viewer — ideally the device the recipient will use. Most viewers respect the rotation flag immediately, but a cached preview (in a file manager or messaging app) can keep showing the old orientation until the file is re-opened fresh.

Rotate by the right angle

Each run turns pages by 90 degrees, so an upside-down page needs two runs. Track the direction across an entire document rather than per page: if some pages are portrait and others landscape, split them with Split PDF, rotate the misoriented subset, and merge everything back.

Before and after review

Open the rotated copy in a fresh viewer, not a cached preview. Many file managers show stale orientation until a full re-open, which makes a correct rotation look untouched. Check a few pages before you share or print the document.

Save the original first

Keep the source PDF untouched. If rotation still fails on a mixed-orientation scan, isolate the offending pages with Split PDF, rotate them on their own, and merge the result back into place — the source stays the anchor for any re-work.

When rotation is not enough

If pages are cropped, skewed from scanning at an angle, or mirrored, rotation alone will not fix them. Rotation handles 90-degree orientation errors only; skew and crop problems belong to the scanning or export step, so re-capture those pages before sharing the document.

The current local path applies a 90-degree rotation to the document pages. Review the result carefully when a PDF contains mixed page orientations.
