How to extract selected pages from a PDF

Select the pages you need from a long document and save them as a new PDF instead of sharing the entire file.

01

Open Split PDF and choose a readable document.

02

Select the pages you want to keep — click them in the visual page selector or type a range such as 1-3,5.

03

Download the new PDF, which contains exactly the pages you selected, and check it before sharing.

Get the page numbers right

PDF page numbers count from the very first page of the file — including covers and blanks — not from any numbers printed on the pages. If the printed document says 'page 12' but the file has a two-page cover, that content is on PDF page 14. Open the file in a viewer that shows the absolute page position and note the real numbers before typing ranges.

Extract versus delete

Splitting (extracting) keeps the pages you list and discards the rest; Delete PDF Pages keeps everything except the pages you list. If you need one invoice from a 60-page batch, extract page 31. If you need to remove a confidential appendix from a report, delete the appendix pages. Choosing the right direction saves you from typing fifty page numbers.

What you get back

The result is one new PDF containing exactly the pages you selected — nothing is recompressed, rotated, or renumbered, and the source file stays untouched. If you need each page as its own separate file, run the extract once per page; for a few pages that is quick, and for larger jobs splitting into a few logical parts is usually more practical than dozens of single-page files.

Working with scans

Splitting copies whole pages without reading their content, so it works perfectly on scanned PDFs — no OCR needed. That also means the tool cannot find 'the page with the signature'; you locate pages visually, then extract by number.

Before you run a range

Count the pages the way the file counts them — from the first physical page, not any printed numbers. On multi-part documents, the visual page selector in the tool helps you mark pages directly instead of typing ranges, which removes a common source of mis-counted inputs.

Common mistakes to avoid

Typical errors are entering printed page numbers on files with a cover, and choosing delete when you wanted extract. After running, open the output and scan through every page: it is cheaper to re-run split than to discover a swapped direction after sending the document.

Keep the source

Retain the original PDF until the extract verifies. A wrong range is easy to re-run against the source, so the original should be the last thing you delete.

Scanned files may need OCR for searchable text, but page splitting itself does not require OCR.
