How to add page numbers to a PDF before sending it

Create a clearer review copy when you need to refer to specific pages in an email, approval, or feedback thread.

01

Keep an unnumbered original, then open Number PDF pages.

02

Choose the file and make sure its pages are already in their final order before processing.

03

Download the numbered copy and open it to confirm that page numbers do not cover an important footer, signature, or note.

Number pages after finalizing the document

Page numbers are best added after the page content and order are settled. Deleting, inserting, merging, or reordering pages afterward can make the stamped sequence wrong, so keep an unnumbered original and apply numbering to a final copy.

What the tool numbers

The current tool places a simple footer number on every page in document order, starting at the first physical page. It does not restart numbering mid-document, skip a cover, or create Roman numerals for front matter.

Check for footer collisions

A stamped number can overlap existing footer text, a full-width table, or an image that reaches the bottom edge. Open the output and inspect dense pages at normal zoom to confirm that both the number and existing content remain readable.

Handle an unnumbered cover

If the cover should not be numbered, use Split PDF to separate it, number the body copy, and then merge the cover back in front. Review the final PDF from the first page onward before sharing so references match the stamped page sequence.

The current tool adds a simple page-number footer. Share the resulting copy and keep the original if you need an unnumbered document.
