Add page numbers to a PDF
Page numbers make long documents navigable: reviewers can reference 'page 14' instead of describing locations, printed copies stay in order, and tables of contents become usable. Many exported or scanned PDFs arrive without any numbering.
This tool adds a simple footer number to each page of the PDF, locally in your browser, and produces a numbered copy. It adds numbers in document order starting from the first page; complex header/footer layouts, Roman numerals, or restarting numbering mid-document are outside the current scope.

Before you start

- Check that the footer number does not overlap existing content on dense pages before sharing.
- If the document has a cover page you do not want counted, split it off first, number the body, then merge the cover back.
